I picked my bumper and tire carrier combo so that I could adjust it and let the spare tire just barely rest on the bumper. Even though I have an HD tire carrier, this way there isn’t as much stress on the hinges or door when bouncing around back there. It works pretty well and has stayed solid for a one time. You can see there isn’t any clearance between my spare and the rear bumper when the tailgate is closed.
