Turns out I needed both.

 The thinking let me realize I could get it out for gear if I pulled myself forward a bit with the winch.  The food gave me the energy to begin the winching myself out part of the project.  A nice family group stopped by to offer help.  For whatever reason, the ignition coil also gave up the ghost so it wouldn’t start.  They gave me a ride back to an encampment of Jeepers and the winching/towing began.  This pic gives a little perspective for where I left it…
