During our plinking last weekend, we had the chance to shoot a lever action 45-70! What a monster cartridge! Here you see the empty brass pictured next to a .308, dwarfing it. For reference, a .308 is about 50% bigger than 5.56 that a common AR uses. 45-70 is 50% bigger than the .308. The 45-70 was surprisingly easy to shoot. Julie and I both hit the 150 yard target on our first try.
Speaking of long distant targets. We also both hit a 20"x24" plate target at 150 yards - WITH OUR PISTOLS! I could hit one out of every two or three shots. It was fun to mess around with, but I wouldn't want to have to depend on my handgun skills at that distance. Give me a rifle for that any day! hahahaha.
