I heard a clunking in my driveline last week. Once per wheel revolution, but only when I was going very slowly (like creeping ahead in traffic at a light). I pulled over to find I only had two lug nuts left. Two of the studs had broken, and a third had worked it’s way off. So I jacked it up (to take the weight off so I could torque it correctly), tightened the remaining back up, and added a third spare. Then I limped home, tightening them again every mile or so.
I guess I am going to have to replace some studs…. Good thing I checked. I would have broken clean off and passed me on the road in another mile or two…
