Sadly, the jacks from my childhood have given up the ghost. I still need to try and rebuild them, but in meantime, I need to have one's I can rely on. So Off to collect some deals at Harbor Freight I went. Crazy that $30 can get you a 12 ton replacement bottle jack. I carry that with me. For real work, I got a nice low profile floor jack.
Remember folks, never get under a vehicle held up by just a jack. Use your jack stands! I was in the middle of working on my rig when the floor jack just slowly let itself down. Thankfully, I had jack stands in place (I wasn't under it at the time either). When I went to use my spare bottle jack I realized that even though I could lift with it, it didn't hold the weight very long either. I'll check the fluids, see if they can be rebuilt, and pass them onto my kids, or just sit them on a shelf for the memories of working on cars and tractors with my dad❣️
