This is my mom standing with the service flag they were given to signify her half-sibling's service in World War II. As her dad watched them slowly rotate over seas, he commented, while holding my mom, that he didn't know what he'd do if he didn't have her. As you can see from the left picture, she was young enough to stay behind. In that photo she's standing in front of the barn from her childhood homestead too. I remember eating pizza there when it had been turned into a pizza parlor at some point while I was growing up.
