Well, I finally got around to tearing apart the fan that the kids broke a little while back... This is what I found:

1. Burnt motor windings
2. Broken motor windings
3. Power leads stripped from the motor windings...

I guess I know why it shorted out. I also know two guys that are taking several months to pay for it....!

While it is still, technically, under warranty... I don't think it would be right to send it in, knowing how it died. One thing for sure, I'm not gonna risk repairing it. Too easy to leave something to catch fire later...

Oh well, take the good with the bad. I still love them!
